So here is my first fondant cake. I kind of threw it together really fast so it doesn't look perfect but I like the overall look. I'm going to have to clean up my next one a bit better (there's powdered sugar inside the bow and I accidentally broke one of the stripes...oops) but whatever, it's my first fondant covered cake and I like it!
Not too bad! If you ever have questions, feel free to hit me up on twitter, I've been messing with fondant for about 6 years or so.
ReplyDeleteI started rolling out fondant with powdered sugar. And it worked fine for a long time, but my hands would get sticky very quickly. If you use corn starch, it won't do that. (I don't know if you have the same problem or not).
And, I really don't like the idea of what I'm about to tell you, and I've only tried it once, but if you are practicing, it might be worth a try. Once you've covered your cake in fondant, rub it with crisco. Yes, crisco. it will give it a shine. But only use a very thin layer, otherwise you can see your finger prints.
BTW, your roses from an earlier post look great!
I absolutely love it! Can't wait to get together to bake and decorate. I hope you get lots and lots of orders because I can't wait to see more.
